Not all anaesthetists are comfortable anaesthetising children. Fortunately, the anaesthetists who Dr Stevens has chosen to work with are both comfortable and very capable of caring for children of all ages under anaesthetic. They endeavour to meet all patients and their parents on the day of surgery before you come to theatre, however in some emergency cases they may only see you once you are brought to the theatre area.
In all elective cases you will be provided with an information pamphlet on various aspects of paediatric anaesthesia and they will discuss the different options available to put your child to sleep and to assist with pain relief both during and after the procedure. Please feel free to ask as many questions as you want, it is important for you to feel comfortable with all members of the surgical team. Please note that the anaesthetists have their own billing policy separate from Dr Stevens and any discussion on the relevant fees involved with anaesthesia should take place directly with them.
