Qualifications:
MBChB (Cum Laude) (Pret), MMed PaedSurg (Pret), FCPaedSurg (SA).
Dr Stevens received his medical degree MBChB (Cum Laude) from the University of Pretoria in 2006 and subsequently completed 2 years of internship in Port Elizabeth and a year of community service at Witbank Hospital.
His training as a paediatric surgeon was undertaken at the University of Pretoria. During his training he was awarded the Brebner Medal from the South African College of Surgeons in 2012 for the Best Achievement nationwide in the intermediary surgical exams. He was awarded his Fellowship of the South African College of Paediatric Surgeons as well as a Masters Degree in Paediatric Surgery in 2014.
Thereafter, Dr Stevens was fortunate enough to work as a Fellow in Paediatric Surgery for 2 years at the Birmingham Children's Hospital in the United Kingdom. Here he was able to further his interest and training in paediatric surgery with a special focus on Surgical Oncology (tumour surgery). He also spent time in the hepatobiliary and transplant unit at both the Birmingham Children's and the Queen Elizabeth hospitals in Birmingham.
He returned to South Africa in October 2016 and has been practising in private practice in the Pretoria and Midrand area since. While he is involved in all spheres of general paediatric surgical care, he maintains a special interest in surgical oncology and neonatal surgery.
